Summer Yoga: Your Path to a Balanced, Cool Season

July 09, 20243 min read

Summer's here with its bright, long days and that special warmth that invites us to enjoy every extra minute of sunshine. But when you're powering through a busy day, sometimes the heat isn't all sunshine and smiles—it's a reminder to find your own shade and stay cool.

Stay Balanced with a Breath of Fresh Air

We know you've got a lot on your plate and when the heat's on, it's not just about finding time for a cool drink—it's about listening to your body. Think of summer as nature's way of telling us to slow down a bit, to take things a little easier, and to breathe in that restorative energy.

HŌMTOWN Yoga is the perfect partner for these sultry days. It's all about keeping it cool, calm, and collected—inside and out.

Cool Down with Soothing Breaths

When the thermometer's rising, try these simple breathing exercises to keep your cool:

Sitali - The Cooling Breath: Imagine a breath of air that's like a minty breeze for your mind and a gentle wave of cool for your body.

Here's how to tap into that freshness:

  • Settle down in a comfortable spot.

  • Start with a few normal breaths, focusing on your natural rhythm.

  • Curl your tongue and inhale through it like a straw.

  • Close your mouth and exhale through your nose.

  • Keep it up for a few minutes and then enjoy the chill.

Sitkari - The Hissing Breath: Can't curl your tongue? No problem.

Sitkari is just as refreshing:

  • Give a light smile and lightly touch your teeth together.

  • Inhale through your teeth, and feel the cool air trickle in.

  • Close your mouth and let the air out through your nose.

  • Repeat for a bit and bask in the coolness you've created.

Tailor Your Yoga to the Temperature

Summer's a great time to adapt your yoga to what feels right, especially in this summer heat. Here are a few tips to keep your yoga practice perfectly cool:

  • Morning Glory: Get on your mat in the early mornings when it's still cool and quiet out.

  • Slow Flow: Choose a gentle, rhythmic Vinyasa that goes with the lazy summer tempo, keeping each pose light and easy.

  • Easy Does It: Don't push too hard—practice at a pace that feels good without heating up too much.

  • Gentle Gaze: Soften your eyes during your practice to help cool down your mind and keep things mellow.

Summer's all about enjoying the warmth without getting burnt out. So take it easy, find your flow with us, and let's make this summer a time for feeling good, staying cool, and keeping it light.
